already had coffee
worked out and watched tv
you don’t want anything
resembling news now
you keep your head down
getting the grind ground
eventually anything
makes you feel guilty about it
a breath
and then
when you’re ready
count to ten
but how do you know
if you’re ready for it?
finally you cave in
unlock your phone trembling
and you read everything
blind devouring
insatiable as you
lose sight of what to do
looking for anything
fuel for your righteous anger
but what does feeling bad do
if it’s not helping you move?
sign a petition
share
do something
you can’t allow yourself to do nothing
because then you are
compliant with the system
that allows hundreds of people
to be killed everyday
if not thousands
we have every right to be upset
always remain angry
but remain hopeful as well
because when you’re angry
you wanna do something about it
don’t let the anger die within you
don’t let it turn to bitterness
you have greatness within you
you have greatness when you
stand up against prejudice and evil
when you allow yourself to be silent
and complicit
you allow that greatness
to die within
so don’t do that
don’t do that
you love yourself
and you love others
when you fight
against a broken system
to reinstate a new one
a breath
and then
when you’re ready
count to ten
but how do you know
if you’re ready for it?
